When the time for holiday shopping begins we have a list of people to buy for, lists of wishes to go with the first list, lists of places to shop to get those wish list items, and the list of lists goes on. Lots of planning and bustling about can make the special moments and all too short or even missed completely. I find, when I concentrate on giving rather than just buying the holidays become more enjoyable. One of the ways I do this is participating in the Angel Tree Program.
Our local town center has a tree each year full of Angels – paper tags with a child’s first name, age, gender, clothing sizes, and gift wish. It does add to the list of lists and frenzied timing, but I love slowing down and helping someone else have a magical Christmas. Now that my son is old enough to understand compassion, it’s a great experience to share with him as well.
Do you have any programs you like to participate in for the holidays?
