Gift Guide for Little Explorers

For #SmallBusinessSaturday I am sharing some of my favorite small businesses I think you will love too. Today is a great day to start your holiday shopping while supporting small and local businesses. For the youngsters on your gift list, here are some great places to shop online.

Small Things Illustration

The Leaf Pack is one of my favorite items from Small Things Illustration. Apart from the fact it is just adorable, they are great for storing “storing acorns, berries, tiny books, buttons, or whatever else” your little finds along the way. They are also just the right fit as backpacks for small dolls. If your little one likes to bring along a doll companion on their adventures, they will love to get this little pack for the holidays.

About the Shop: “Alyssa Spencer is an illustrator and maker of small things. She grew up tumbling down grassy hillsides, filling her pockets with acorns, reading piles and piles of books, and making lots of little things in the wild suburbs of Virginia. Her work focuses on nature, folklore, and plants from a bug’s point of view. She works in a variety of media from gouache to fabric to paper using a menagerie of techniques and self taught skills.”

Do your little ones like to help you in the garden? This trowel and rake set are handmade for your little gardeners in training. “The tools have wooden handles and colorful finishes. The trowel is 8.5 inches long and the rake is 5.75 inches long. Made by Moulin Roty.”

About the Shop: “Founded in 2011 by Vincent and Isa, The Bower Studio offers artistic and functional items for the home, inspired by old curiosity cabinets, herbalism, and nature. We strive to create natural and effective skincare products; beautiful, functional design; and unique decor. For more information, please visit our website at

My son is too old for rattles now, but I know he would have loved this one.” These beautiful baby rattles are organic with a natural finish. They are smooth, safe for babies, and make fun noises. “As your baby plays, they develop their senses of touch, sight, and sound.”

About the Shop: “We are a husband and wife team that create beautiful and safe wooden toys for all ages. We believe that wooden toys are not only beautiful in any home, they also stimulate a child’s imagination. All our products are organic and eco-friendly.”

Most people are familiar with Nesting Dolls but I must say, I’ve never seen a set like the ones handcrafted at Landon’s Toy Box. This Woodland Animals Matryoshka Nesting Doll Set “features a bear, fox, raccoon, skunk, hedgehog, and chipmunk ranging from 5 1/2″ tall down to 1 1/8″ tall.”

Let your little one sail away with these adorable Tub Toy Sail Boats from Hearts Desire. “You choose your sail color which is made of foam and very seaworthy. The hull and mast are left natural and hand rubbed with a beeswax finish making this completely eco-friendly.”
